Survey Methods & Remote Sensing Data

This dashboard integrates ground-level surveys across Delhi with high-resolution satellite data to reveal the effects of heat and climate across Delhi.

📝 Ground Surveys: Delhi residents answered a survey that included questions on work patterns, transit patterns, appliances owned like air conditioning units or electric fans, and their perceived impacts of heat and climate on their daily lives.
🛰 Remote Sensing: Satellite data was analysed to put Delhi residents' answers in context to larger environmental considerations such as the density of built-up areas, tree cover, and perceived 'feels like' temperatures ('Experienced Heat'). Experienced Heat values were calculated based on using temperature and relative humidity values.

Environmental Layer Descriptions


🏢 Built-Up Area	Shows the density of physical building footprints and concrete structures. Compare across areas to see which neighborhoods feature higher-density urban environments. Source: JRC GHSL P2023A GHS-BUILT-S (Built-up surface, 10 m–30 m) (2025)
🌳 Green Cover	Shows the percentage of tree canopy cover. Compare across areas to see which neighborhoods enjoy protective green, shaded spaces, and which lack them. Source: NASA MODIS MOD44B v6.1 (Vegetation Continuous Fields, 250m)
☀️ Experienced Heat	Shows which areas have the highest 'feels like' temperatures that can affect productivity and health for those living and working there. Source: ERA5 Land Hourly (2m air temperature, dew point, ~10 km), VIIRS Daily Land Surface Temperature (1 km) (15 May - 15 June 2025)

How to use this app

1. Choose a boundary to show: Assembly Constituency or Pincodes.

2. Select an overlay (Built-Up Area, Green Cover, or Experienced Heat).

3. Browse the categories and survey questions, and click a question to see its responses displayed on the map and charts.

4. Click an area to see its responses and compare it to Delhi as a whole.
